This page is for people whose calendar runs their life: managers, founders, lawyers, doctors, parents with two jobs. You know exercise matters, but the gym keeps losing to the inbox. HipTrain is live 1-on-1 personal training over video. You book a 30 or 60-minute session with the same certified coach, join from wherever you are, and pay about $14 a session. The first one is free.

The short version

  • A booked session with a real person is the kind of commitment busy people keep. It goes on your calendar like a meeting.
  • Thirty minutes, no commute, no locker room. Join from your desk, home office or a hotel room.
  • Your coach plans every session. You don't have to think, just show up.
  • Reschedule anytime in the app when a meeting runs over.

Why a live coach helps busy professionals

Time is the real barrier, so cut the overhead. A one-hour gym workout often costs two hours once you add the drive, changing and waiting. A video session costs exactly the time on the clock. The CDC notes you can spread activity across the week and break it into smaller chunks. Federal guidelines dropped the old rule that only 10-minute bouts count, and now say any amount of activity has some benefit.

The guidelines fit in a work week. The CDC asks adults for strength work on 2 days a week plus 150 minutes of moderate activity. Two 30-minute coached sessions cover the strength part. Brisk walks to meetings, or a walking phone call, can cover much of the rest.

Decisions are the enemy. At 6 p.m. after ten meetings, choosing a workout is one decision too many. With a coach, the plan is ready. You open the app and start.

Accountability that respects your time. Someone is waiting for you, which makes it harder to skip. But when the board call moves, you can reschedule in the app instead of losing the week. You can also message your coach between sessions.

It travels. The same coach meets you at home, at the office or on the road. Your routine doesn't reset every time you fly.

What a session looks like

An example only: a 12:30 p.m. "lunch hour" session for a 49-year-old manager who sits most of the day and has a 1:15 meeting. It's built to be low-sweat, so you can get back to work.

  1. Reset (4 minutes). Neck and shoulder rolls, chin tucks, standing hip flexor stretch and thoracic rotations. These target the stiffness that long hours at a desk often bring.
  2. Strength supersets (16 minutes). Split squats holding the edge of a desk for balance, paired with incline push-ups on the desk. Then single-leg hip hinges paired with band rows from a door handle (or a towel). Your coach keeps the pace brisk and the rest short.
  3. Core (5 minutes). Standing anti-rotation holds with a band, slow bird dogs and a plank. No floor sweat if you're on a rug at the office: your coach swaps in standing versions.
  4. Cool-down (5 minutes). Breathing, chest and hip stretches, and a reminder to take the stairs to your next meeting.

On a day you have more time and a shower nearby, your coach can make it harder. On a crushing day, it can be gentler. Same coach, same calendar slot.

A month has about 4.3 weeks, so each 30-minute session is about $14 and each 60-minute session about $25. Three 30-minute sessions a week is $179.99 a month. Your first session is free, with no card required.

Pre-tax dollars may help too: HipTrain is HSA / FSA eligible. Keep in mind that IRS Publication 502 usually counts exercise as a medical expense only when it's for a specific diagnosed condition, often documented in a Letter of Medical Necessity. Your plan administrator has the final word. See our HSA guide.

In-person trainers average about $55 an hour nationally, per Thumbtack, with most charging between $40 and $100. Three hours a week at the national average is about $700 a month, before your travel time.

When HipTrain isn't the right fit

  • If your schedule is truly unpredictable, so you can't book even a day ahead, an app with recorded workouts you can start anytime fits better.
  • If you want an executive wellness package with nutrition, sleep and medical testing, we don't offer that. We do live training only.
  • If you have reliable access to a great gym and trainer near your office, in person may suit you. We're video only.
  • We're small: a handful of featured coaches and 29 App Store ratings.

Questions

Can I train at the office?

Yes. All you need is a little floor space and a phone or laptop. Your coach can keep it low-sweat and use your desk or a chair as equipment.

What if a meeting runs over?

You can reschedule anytime in the app. Let your coach know in the chat if you're running late.

Is 30 minutes twice a week really enough?

It covers the CDC's strength guideline of 2 days a week. Add walking to get closer to the 150-minute aerobic goal. More is fine, but consistent beats heroic.

Can I keep the same coach when I travel?

Yes. Your coach meets you on video wherever you are. See our page for people who travel.
