Noom helps you change eating habits, with GLP-1 options. HipTrain is a live trainer for exercise. Many people could use both. Here is how to choose.
Full disclosure: HipTrain wrote this page, and we're one of the two services on it. So we're biased. Every fact about Noom comes from what Noom publishes or from a named review, and the links are at the end.
These two do different jobs. Choose Noom if your main goal is changing how you eat, with daily lessons, food logging and a coach who checks in through the app, or if you want medical weight-loss care with GLP-1 medication. Choose HipTrain if you want a real trainer with you, live on video, to guide your exercise. HipTrain does not offer nutrition coaching, and Noom does not offer live 1-on-1 training sessions, so plenty of people could use both.
HipTrain is live personal training over video. You fill out a two-minute questionnaire, and we match you with a coach who fits your goals and your calendar. Sign-up to first session can happen in under a day.
At each session, your coach is on camera with you. They watch your form, change exercises when something hurts or feels too easy, and keep you moving. It's the same coach every time, and if it isn't a fit, we rematch you. You don't need a gym or equipment. Between sessions, you can chat with your coach in the app and reschedule anytime.
What we don't do: HipTrain does not offer nutrition or dietitian coaching, meal plans or weight-loss medication. Our coaches are trainers, not dietitians or doctors.
"I have been training with Juan Garcia for about a year now. He is very knowledgeable, and helped me get to a consistent strength training schedule, even though I didn't have any strength training experience when we started." (Manya S., Google review)
Noom's headline is "Meds to lose the weight. Noom to keep it off." Its classic program, Noom Weight, is a behavior-change app. Noom describes daily lessons rooted in psychology, photo food logging, tracking for weight, water, sleep and mood, and "weekly check-ins" from Noom coaches. Garage Gym Reviews describes the coach as someone who will "text back and forth with you through the app." For exercise, Noom lists step goals, syncing with watches like Apple Watch and Fitbit, and on-demand Noom Move classes.
Noom also runs medical programs. Noom Med connects you with clinicians who can prescribe GLP-1 or other weight-loss medication if appropriate. Its GLP-1 programs include medication, telehealth visits and coaching, and Noom says its GLP-1 Companion adds "Muscle Defense" workouts, a curated workout video library.
Noom does not advertise live 1-on-1 video workouts with a personal trainer.
Here are the published prices.
Noom Weight on a long plan costs far less a month than any HipTrain plan. But you aren't buying the same thing. If you want both habit coaching and a live trainer, the 12-month Noom Weight plan ($17.42 a month) plus one HipTrain session a week ($59.49) comes to about $77 a month. See every plan in our pricing section.
If your goal is mainly about food, Noom covers ground we don't. We don't offer nutrition coaching, meal plans or medication. HipTrain also asks you to show up at a booked time, on camera. We have far fewer reviews than the big apps (29 App Store ratings), a small coach roster, no big on-demand workout library, and no in-person sessions.
No. Noom is a weight-loss and behavior-change program with coaching through the app, plus on-demand workout videos. It does not advertise live 1-on-1 training. HipTrain is a live personal trainer on video.
No. HipTrain does not offer nutrition or dietitian coaching. We focus on exercise. If you want food coaching too, a program like Noom can cover that side. For exercise-focused weight goals, see our page on training for weight loss.
HipTrain is HSA / FSA eligible (see how it works). Noom says it doesn't take HSA or FSA payments directly, but you can request a Letter of Medical Necessity and file for reimbursement. Check your own plan's rules.
It depends on the plan. Noom Weight on a long plan is cheaper, at $17.42 a month for 12 months. HipTrain starts at $59.49 a month for one live 30-minute session a week. Noom's GLP-1 programs, at $179 to $299 a month after the first month, cost more than most HipTrain plans. Weighing other options? See Noom alternatives.
